China Announces That It Will Cover Nearly A Quarter Of The Country In Forest By 2020...

China has announced, via a United Nations report, that it will be covering nearly a quarter of the country with forests by 2020.  The plan is to turn China into an “ecological civilization” and function as a model for future building projects.

“The outdated view that man can conquer nature and ignore the bearing capacity of resources and the environment should be completely abandoned,” said Zhu Guangyao, executive vice president of the Chinese Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association. “Conscientious efforts should be made to live in harmony with nature, allowing for a new approach to modernization characterized by such co-existence.”

The report also indicated that by 2020 the country plans on cutting water consumption by 23 percent, energy consumption by 15 percent and carbon emissions per unit of GDP by 18 percent.

There is also action to restore 35 percent of the natural shorelines, increase prairie vegetation coverage by 56 percent and reclaim more than half of reclaimable desert in the country. (Via Minds)

A little concerned to hear this coming from China. We’re hearing “harmony” and forgetting that this is a country that still practices infanticide and imprisons families for having too many children.

It’s really difficult to get excited about forests in China when they are simply moving their very toxic industry practices to Africa…not improving just inflicting it on other peoples…

Meanwhile, here in Australia, the crows fly backwards to keep the dust out of their eyes. ???? ????

And most people will be killed by smog in 2019.

Never underestimate the Chinese

News flash, planting forest while destroying the existing habitat doesn’t solve shit

News flash: doing nothing is worse than planting new trees.

Tim, hate to break it to you but clearly you don’t understand how the planet works.

Explain how planting even 100% of China with forest will help? You do understand that animals have adapted over thousands of years to live in certain conditions correct? Ripping that out and replacing it with “forest” will destroy thousands upon thousands of mini ecosystems. Absolutely devastating the environment…

Go ahead and please tell me how China gets the majority of its power, and how continuing that is sustainable or logical, when you’re trying to clean up the environment.

I understand perfectly, but these are two separate issues we are talking about here.

The most populous country China, aspires to turn its lands into forest! While the 2nd most populous country India aspires to go cashless!!

Reply

Cashless? No thanks…..Just another way to follow you and spy on you. I can see it now……”hmmmm this says you bought 2 Twinkies last Tuesday. You know that isn’t in the diet plan we created for you. Now this means your insurance premiums will have to go up too.”

They should also clean up their rivers…

The manifesto and philosophy are brilliant. If they achieve half of this it will be great. Hopefully it will inspire more of this.

Meanwhile in Canada, we are clearing bush to plant turbines for power we don’t need.

Reply

? Yes. People have to get smart, collaboratively build Eco communities that don’t depend on grid power. A nation only suffers because a bunch of lazy people don’t like fetching water or chopping wood. I was one of them, still learning but it’s a beautiful process to enjoy too. Start recycling, grow food, harvest the rain, DIY. A few months on you’ll get the bigger picture and with time your bills will start to slash by half. We don’t need to depend on a government that really isn’t doing the job we paid them for.

The Canadian tar sands could quite literally push us over the edge with climate change. Nothing Canada does can make up for how devastating their tar sands are.

    Reply

Do a little more research on the oil sands, don’t believe all the propaganda put out there. Alberta does more to promote recycling and eco than California does with their offshore rigs, the footprint doesn’t show when they are in the water.

We all should be really worried about the nuclear accident in Japan a few years ago, it is still leaking into the ocean. That affects all of us.

ccp propaganda, their words mean nothing…

Believe it when I see it in 2020 smells like bull dust to me

Understandable to be suspicious but oddly enough China is being by far the most aggressive in addressing climate change.

Why oh why can’t we?

Meanwhile in NSW in Australia they have recently passed legislation to allow further land clearing across the state! Disgusting!

Reply

Even if they don’t meet all of those goals, at least it seems like they are trying! Trump’s only ideas are to bring back coal, open more Federal lands to oil drilling, and let the biggest polluters make all the drinking water undrinkable! Oh, and until Trudeau shuts down the tar sands, he is not much better!!

China has more renewables than the rest of the world combined

    Reply

yeah and they are going to use the bodies of their victims as fertilizer

Ever been there? It’s pretty well covered by forests in certain regions anyway!

So now we’re believing the Chinese media machine? Really?

Reply

Why not? They are more honest than America and Trump!

Look at the facts, Todd…China is not North Korea.

The Tory voting clowns in Scotland and england believed the westminster media machine ie the BBC so why not.

Trees take longer than that to grow

Reply

Just more rubbish think.. In 3 years.. What kind of GMO tree have they invented. It takes 7 years to turn a tree seed into a transplantable seedling.. If they started today and worked at it everyday, they might be there by 2050 or 2060. But they would have to spend more money on trees than they do on weapons..very unlikely.

Grow HEMP, you idiots!

Reply

Nice idea, but what part of this area was deforested previously? Do they mean to turn cities into forests, as in the one location that is being tried? Or do they mean disrupting other ecosystems to plant trees and call it forest? Planting trees does not create a forest.

Good for China!

While they mercilessly strip Africa of its trees! LOL!!!!

China is mage only country now what can deliver more then promise so i am all In . I belive we don’t have much time if we don’t make transition now in 20 -30 years can be to late —or to hot ..what means also to late …

Mmm, employing the oldest, most thoroughly tested autonomous robots ever devised, plants!!! And get the best ones for the purpose and let them go. Jobs for ordinary People planting them, not bloody nuclear scientists or devious witchdoctor economists selling snake oil solutions. China has the resolve, money and people power to do it.
