You can build trellising cages for your container and ground planted vegetables by using 14 gauge metal fencing. It is easier than you think and it will save you a lot of money.

This cage is great for tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, peas, zucchini, squash, melons and more. You can also extend the cage easily to 6 feet with bamboo poles or the like.

The metal fencing was $35 and it will make 16 cages for 5 gallon buckets. And they are 4 foot tall and able to take extensions. Check it out in the video below…

You could also consider wrapping the bucket in the wire after the pots are filled and planted. In this way, you can plant anything and alter whether or not it has a trellis in the future. With your hand holes, just cut the wire in the middle and bend all 4 prongs back. This way, you have no sharp edges or future maintenance. Your hand simply brushes the smooth bend.
