Here’s an interesting method of pest control designed to keep slugs & snails out of a garden bed. One guy made a mini electric fence out of garden wire and a 9 volt battery. (Apparently anything above 9v can kill them. So kept it low so they can just learn that there are no more free lunches and still live to pass on the tale). Here’s how he did it…
Step 1, Remove Snails / Slugs…
The bed in question…
Make a small loop and staple it in place. (This is Galvanized Coated Garden Wire, 1.6 mm)…
Run the cable all the way around the bed…
Bring the end back through the loop…
Secure in place with more staples…
Do the same for the second cable, but this time make sure the second cable does not touch the first…
Find a watertight container and drill 2 small holes…
You can just tape the ends to a 9volt battery now (this is how I ran the first one I made for 2 days with no problem)…
But now I’ve had a bit of time (and its stop raining) I decided to solder a 9v connector to the ends…
I then also stuck the 9volt to the lid, just in case water did get in the box, the battery will not sit in any rain water…
Quick LED test to make sure its all running fine…
All done…
Here’s how the snails react…
