Growing Potatoes In Pots For An Enormous Harvest… – Eco Snippets

Growing Potatoes In Pots For An Enormous Harvest…

Growing Potatoes In Pots For An Enormous Harvest...

Backyard Solar Power Revolution...

This video shows one gardeners simple method of planting and growing potatoes in pots.

30 liter pots were used and are filled up half way with any multipurpose compost. 2 oz of Blood Fish & Bone fertilizer were then added, and 1 oz of Potato Magic fertilizer and mixed in well. 2 seed potatoes are then pushed into the compost about 2″ above the bottom of the pot.

The pots are then placed in shallow drills on the soil and soil is drawn around the base to cover the drainage holes so the emerging roots can then grow on further into the soil beneath.

Once the plant emerges the pot is then slowly topped up leaving just a few inches of stem above the soil until the pot is completely topped up with compost. The pots are then watered well in dry weather and you expect anything up to 10 pounds of spuds per pot when harvesting. Check it how it’s done in the first video, and the harvest in the second…

…and in the video below, it’s harvest time…

Hahaha! I tried this one year and out of three huge barrels, all my organic compost etc, I got enough potatoes for two people for 1 meal.

First time I tried growing potatoes, the dog ate them. Second time, the chickens did. Third times the charm?

Lets eat the dog and the chickens, then plant

I grow potatoes in the heavy plastic bags that come with dog pellets. I cut a drainage slit in the bottom, then add a brick for stability. Add compost and the spuds, the fill with compost as the spuds grow.

My pot yielded 3 potatoes.
