There are a lot of advantages to having a raised garden bed to grow your fruit and vegetables. These include less weeds, more growing space, less soil erosion, better water retention than sandy soils, and better drainage than clay soils.
It also means you’re able to garden at a more comfortable height (less bending down, easier access and less effort) so they are ideal for people who have bad backs or other disabilities.
You can create many types of raised garden beds from permanent fixtures made from timber or brick, or by simply growing directly in straw bales. You can also get creative with the design, either sticking with a traditional rectangle shape, or by designing a U shaped raised garden bed to give you even better access to the whole garden.
